The music composer's favorites in Los Angeles

Film music composer Ludwig Göransson has been living in LA for almost ten years during which he says he has never stood still. Here are some of the places that have helped keep him going.

The Beach

Take a day trip out to Malibu. There are several secret beaches. My favorite is El Matador Beach. Finish off the day by driving on the most beautiful highway in the world, the Pacific Coast Highway, or PCH, down to Malibu Seafood to eat fresh fish and enjoy life. If you want to see celebrities, you need to take a look at Nobu instead.

Vantage Point

It’s a magical feeling to be at the top of the Griffith Observatory and look out over all of LA. You can see all the traffic, but the noise of the cars sounds like weak sea ice, very soothing. The observatory is in the middle of the huge Griffith Park where you can walk around in beautiful scenery for hours on end. Only watch out for mountain lions! If you run into them, just stand still.

Desert Rat

It sometimes feels like you’re on another planet when you are in the Joshua Tree National Park. The awesome desert landscape is something that, as a Swede, I’d never experienced before. Sunlight flows over the desert and gives it the colors of neon. In the evening, the sky shifts between turquoise and pink. This huge national park is also perfect for mountain climbing and is cool to camp in, but you can also stay at cozy hotels or AirBnBs nearby.

Live at the Bowl

The legendary Hollywood Bowl is a large outdoor amphitheater open from May to November. It’s the best place to enjoy a concert. Acts ranging from Solange Knowles to George Benson have performed here and film showings with a live orchestra have also been staged. You can also bring a picnic with you and an extra blanket to make things a little more cozy.

There is also a Globen (an arena in Stockholm) in Hollywood. This difference is that this one is a movie theater. Arclight’s Cinerama Dome has one of the biggest screens in the world and a world-class sound system. It’s the best place in LA to watch a film.
